Dear diary…

It is now July 24, 2021. I have had a great last few days. I met some wonderful people in the Portland, Maine area, and ended up playing hockey five of my last seven days there. I was introduced to some great teammates in that time, and was lucky enough to share my story with them, and hopefully garner some new listeners. I also played a couple times with my buddy Casey, from Beauty Unis, and it was so nice to finally put that together, and spend some quality time with him and the fam.

Thursday was a busy day for me. I woke up at six, recorded the road reports, and went in to play some hockey. (See above about meeting great people). I then interviewed one of the guys I had just played with, and he turned me onto a few more folks who may be interested in coming on. Immediately following a shower at Planet Fitness, I jumped in the truck for a long drive, and headed up to Fort Kent. As I shared my next steps with my new friends in Portland, they all looked at me like I had lost my mind when I told them where I was headed. Alas, they didn’t know I had a connection, as one of my best friends grandmothers lives in the area.

I pulled into the driveway, and upon stepping out of the truck, I was greeted with a hug, and a shove towards a quick walk to “stretch the legs”. Sue and I have been getting after the list she wrote up ever since then. We have had a full couple days, including a lovely hike to Fish River Falls, visiting the Mizpah, four-wheeling around countless rows of potatoes, going to Madawaska, which is one of the four corners of the continental U.S., and much more. There has been lobster rolls, homemade blueberry ice cream, and cast iron pizza. So, on all fronts, the trip to see one of the northernmost cities in the lower 48 has been great, from the company to the food.

We have an easier day on the agenda tomorrow, but still have some things to check off the list before I head out on Thursday. Between now and then, be on the lookout for some great episodes to drop.

In hockey,

Vladan
